Question by No Chance Without Thor: How come you can find successful Democratic Socialist countries, but not one successful libertarian country?
Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Germany are all successful democratic socialist countries that have a good mix of regulated capitalism and socialism.

Why are there no successful libertarian or even conservative countries?
@The taxpayer: Are you aware that those countries are in fact doing good and that they have FREE college? No you aren’t. They get much more for the public welfare than we do.

  1. You can post free classified ads at Craigslist.org. They have sites for just about every European Nation. You won’t get the same response as a display ad in a local newspaper, and some of the weeklies can be pretty cheap–but it is free and people do read the ads.

Here’s a link to Craigslist, Norway. (Oslo) You’ll find links to other cities and countries on the right side of the page.

  3. 3 of them have no armed forces at all to speak of (others must protect them). 2 of them are are at risk of financial default. Only Germany is successful. They don’t have nearly the social programs that we do and other “free rides.” No scholarships for any group that a politician is trying to curry favor with…etc..Proportionately and per capita they have 1/6th what we do. They seem to approach things more logically requiring due diligence before placing someone as a ward of the state.

  4. I love the morons who claim that libertarians want no government at all.

As to your question, define “successful”.

The reason there are no libertarian countries is that the central banking cabal will. not. have it.

It is essential to them that humans remain in debt.

The United States was libertarian — and the most prosperous nation in the history of the world — until Woodrow Wilson sold it down the river in 1913. That was the year the bankers took over the economy, and YOUR LIFE.

I wonder if you can hear any of that.

  5. It is Social Democratic, not Democratic Socialist. Get your word order right, Yank.

Well, I do not wish to ruin everything for you, I am a Socioliberalist myself (roughly equivalent to Moderate Democrats in the US). However, as a history student I must point out that the most successful country in history pursued a Laissez Faire economy. The British Empire had minimal government and economical regulation between 1850 and 1910. The problem was of course that it created gross class division, widespread poverty, tons of crime, and unsanitary conditions. Much like the US today. However, in the modern world, the State does no longer wish to gamble with people’s lives and living for profit, so in most of Europe the practice has been dropped for more responsible Social Democratic forms of government.

And I have to say that the person who said the Scandinavian countries are incapable of defending themselves has apparently never heard of the Winter War (where Finland, completely on its own without intervention from the West or even the other Scandinavian countries, caused extreme casualties for the Soviets), nor served in Afghanistan. The Norwegians and the Danes have been some of the most useful allies the US has had down there.

  6. News Flash Dumbasss. Nothing is FREE. Hence the title Socialist. Take from the haves and give to the have nots. Everything must be paid for by someone.

If you like that way of life so well, there are plenty of countries you can move to. Personally I prefer the freedoms and liberty that come with a cost, over the free schit that comes at the cost of freedom.

If you do a little more research on your subject, instead of just some talking points, you will find that in said countries, EVERYONE pays taxes, there is censorship in speech and printed words. There is no way for a common person to excel ( beside of course moving to the USA).

How many news stories have you ever read of United States citizens being rescued at sea or being found dead in the landing gear wells of aircraft, because they were trying to escape the representative republic government of the USA? NONE

If you want help packing, feel free to e mail me. That is one thing you can find for FREE in this country.

  7. Reading other peoples answers it’s downright scary how little they know.
Norway is a very successfull democratic socialist country.
It has minor problems with the government and people are frustrated with what they consider the politicians lack of action after last years terrorist attack.

despite what people think, there are plenty of opportunities for people to excell in Norway and many people are filthy rich as that seems to be how people measure success. We do pay alot of money in taxes, which ensures a very comprehensive welfare system that takes good care of you. Things like free health care is a very nice thing to have. (theres a symbolic fee you have to pay to go to the doctor, about 30 dollars, but if you can’t afford it, you have a chronic disease or you just don’t want to pay it you can get a freecard).

Norwegian government pays for tertiary education and will assist with any education you want. It’s nice to have a system that takes care of you :)

And btw, socialist doesn’t mean dictatorship. We have free speech and our level of censorship is pretty low compared to, let’s say the US.
(Norway is considered one of, if not the most democratic country in the world. for example the economists democracy index)

Regarding Taxpayers comment on our military. Norways military is a combination between national service that everyone has to do and profesional soldiers. While the armed forces are small in size it’s the most skilled in the world when it comes to arctic warfare and young boys 18, 19 years old who have been in service for under a year have completely shamed the USMC, the french foreign legion and many other elite combat units from all over the world during arctic warfare exercises. Norways special forces are also among the most skilled in the world and NATO and ISAF have many times over requested their participation.

Regarding your original question, Democratic socialist countries tend to take care of their citizens and try to keep order while making everyone happy.
Libertarian is basically Somalia, noone has to take responsibility and everyone can do whatever they want. That doesn’t end well because you don’t need many people to fuck up a country when everyone has an AK-47 in their mattress.
